Alex Rodriguez won Seat 5. He took 13,666 votes to Kirk Zilke's 10,146, roughly 57 to 43. He replaces Shawn Fletcher, who didn't run again, and his August primary came down to a single vote after a recount. Results stay unofficial until certification. Read it.
The school tax passed. Osceola voters approved a new one mill property tax, 81,092 for to 45,663 against. That's about $65 million a year for a district facing a projected $100 million shortfall after cutting close to 800 positions in two years. Read it.
Kissimmee's mayor got suspended. Governor DeSantis suspended Jackie Espinosa on October 30, a week after her arrest over city business grant funds. Angela Eady picked up the mayor's duties. Read it.

DID YOU KNOW
This town exists because of veterans. In 1909 the Seminole Land & Investment Company bought 35,000 acres for a Grand Army of the Republic colony, and on April 16 the Kissimmee Valley Gazette announced the new "Soldiers Colony" near Kissimmee. Union men came south for the climate and the soil and never left. So many are buried at Mount Peace that it gets called one of the largest Union cemeteries outside a battlefield anywhere south of the Mason Dixon line. That's the parade you're watching Saturday.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
Last issue: downtown's trick or treat turning into a block party until 11, the Brass Bugle staying home after a 14 to 7 win over Harmony, and the Seat 5 runoff heading to Tuesday. Read it here.
Go enjoy your weekend, St. Cloud. We'll be back Thursday.
