Your paycheck changes September 30. Florida's minimum wage goes to $15 an hour, the last of the dollar jumps voters approved in 2020. Tipped base pay moves from $10.98 to $11.98. A pile of other new laws kick in October 1.
The school zone cameras collected $562,940. Chief Doug Goerke gave the numbers: 7,207 violations before legal questions about camera placement paused the program. The city kept $337,764. His take: "I hope we make zero dollars on this program." Officers wrote 215 citations in the first two weeks of school, and a real ticket runs $168 and three points instead of $100 and none. Kissimmee's mayor agreed to a $2,000 fine. Jackie Espinosa settled an ethics complaint over contracts with businesses that took city grant money. A public reprimand comes with it. The state ethics commission votes on the deal in October. More here.
Harmony is 1 and 3. Gateway beat them 34 to 7, and the Bulldogs get that same Gateway team on October 2.

The building at 1101 Massachusetts Ave went up in 1914 for Union Army veterans. Post No. 34 of the Grand Army of the Republic met inside, named for Lucius L. Mitchell. That's where Soldier City comes from. Thousands of Civil War vets bought lots up here sight unseen and moved down to claim them. It made the National Register on February 21, 1997, and the Sons of Union Veterans still meet in it.
