Hopkins Park gets its $10.3 million. Council awarded the construction contract to Mulligan Constructors on August 20. New community center, basketball court, ball field, community garden, playground, better parking. Paid by a bond backed by developer impact fees, not your property taxes.
Bulk pickup is back to normal. The summer pilot schedule is over and collection is back on the regular days. Check yours before you drag the couch out.
Both teams took one on the chin Friday. St. Cloud lost 42 to 7 up at Marietta, Georgia. Harmony lost 27 to 7 at Victory Christian. They both sit at 1 and 1, and they're both home this Friday. The two of them meet October 23 out at Harmony.

Union veterans started moving here in 1909, pulled down by ads in Northern newspapers. The first one to die, Lucius L. Mitchell, had to be buried in Kissimmee. St. Cloud had nowhere to put him.
So the Grand Army of the Republic took ten donated acres and made Mount Peace, at 755 East 10th Street. Orrin B. King went in February 4, 1910. William C. Russell went in August 12, 1942, the last of them. In between, 427 Union veterans, fifteen of them Andersonville survivors, one a Medal of Honor recipient. Nearly a thousand more veterans have been buried there since.
