The Citywide Garage Sale kicks off tomorrow and runs all weekend. No permit needed if you're inside city limits. Sami's Star-Spangled Celebration is Saturday at the library, the BMX State Championship is also this weekend, and there's some news about St. Cloud's future that's worth knowing. Here's everything.

May 15–17 · Citywide Garage Sale | Citywide | 7am–6pm daily

It's on. If you live inside St. Cloud city limits, set up a garage sale in your driveway anytime from 7am Friday through 6pm Sunday without the permit normally required. Three days, no paperwork, no fees. For sales on any other weekend, permits are still required at stcloudfl.gov. Start pulling stuff out of the garage tonight.

Sami's Star-Spangled Celebration | Veterans Memorial Library, 810 13th St | 10am–1pm

St. Cloud's favorite sandhill crane is back for a patriotic party at the library. Patriotic crafts, a live DJ, inflatables, and face painting. Free and open to the whole family. Presented by the City of St. Cloud and sponsored by AdventHealth. A quintessential St. Cloud Saturday morning.

Florida State BMX Championship | St. Cloud BMX, 2401 Peghorn Way | All day

St. Cloud is hosting riders from across Florida this weekend for the USA BMX Florida State Championship. Practice runs Friday afternoon at 1pm, racing both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday morning features a Pro Clinic with pro rider DL Domingos Lammoglia from 10am–12:30pm. Worth watching if you've never seen competitive BMX up close. Free to spectate, $20 parking on site. Mon May 25 · Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony | Mount Peace Cemetery, 755 E. 10th St | 10am

The annual Memorial Day ceremony at Mount Peace Cemetery, where more than 400 Union Civil War veterans are buried. One of the more meaningful things St. Cloud does all year. Free and open to everyone. More in next week's issue.

St. Cloud is getting a technology park. Osceola County is moving forward with NeoCity South, a 323-acre high-tech campus off Cross Prairie Parkway near the new Nolte Road interchange on the Florida Turnpike. South Korean semiconductor company ELSPES just finalized a $470 million deal to put their U.S. headquarters and manufacturing facility there, creating 600 jobs with average salaries of $85,000. AdventHealth has also committed to building an 80-bed hospital on 20 acres at the same site, with capacity to expand to 200 beds. The Nolte Road interchange opens in 2028. This is a different kind of St. Cloud than the one most people moved to.

Cloud Cash is back June 1. Starting at 10am, you can buy $5 vouchers online worth $10 at participating Downtown St. Cloud businesses. Double your money at local shops and restaurants. Up to 20 vouchers per household, limited supply, sell out fast. Purchases online only, picked up in person with ID. Full list of participating businesses at stcloudmainstreet.org by May 15. Vouchers expire July 31. Set your reminder now: June 1, 10am.

EastRow Market at 1104 New York Ave in Historic Downtown is hard to describe until you walk in. Women's apparel, art, handcrafted gifts, and home decor all under one roof, with over 50 years of combined customer service experience behind the counter. Co-founded by Franny McNutt, whose family has deep roots in St. Cloud's business community, EastRow started during the pandemic when local artisans needed a place to sell. Most St. Cloud residents have never heard of the Disston Sugar Mill. But the crumbling brick walls of Florida's first large-scale sugar factory are still standing in a quiet neighborhood less than two miles from downtown. In 1885 Hamilton Disston built the mill on reclaimed swampland near East Lake Tohopekaliga, processing up to 200 tons of sugarcane daily at its peak. Two freezes in 1894-95 wiped out the crops, the mill was abandoned, and the land eventually became the veteran colony we know today as St. Cloud. The ruins are still there. Most people who live here have no idea.
