Nova Lakes made history, even in a loss. The county's newest high school played the first football game it has ever had, falling 21 to 0 to Pine Ridge in the preseason classic. The real season starts Friday, and that first win is still out there.
Teachers, free fishing gear opens Thursday. Registration for the state's School Fishing Program opens Thursday at 8am, first come, first served. Claim a spot for your school before they're gone.
Last call on the mural scholarship. High school seniors have until August 31 to pitch Toho Water a mural design. The winner gets a $750 scholarship plus $250 in supplies.

Look at a downtown map and you're looking at the Civil War. Col. John McElroy named the original north to south streets for Union states like New York and Pennsylvania, honoring the Union veterans who founded St. Cloud. Confederate state names came later as the city grew east and west. And you won't find a Carolina or Dakota, because nobody wants to live at 301 North South Dakota.
